About kWh Lab
kWh Lab builds free, independent tools that help homeowners make confident energy decisions — from sizing a backup battery to figuring out whether solar is worth it. No sales pitch, no pressure: just the numbers, calculated transparently, so you can decide for yourself.
Why we built it
Energy shopping is full of vague claims and commissioned salespeople. We wanted a place where you could enter your own numbers — your appliances, your electricity rate, your bill — and get an honest estimate in seconds. Every calculator on kWh Lab runs in your browser and shows its assumptions, so nothing is hidden.
What we cover
- Battery and solar-generator sizing for backup power
- The cost to run appliances at your local electricity rate
- Rooftop solar payback and panel-count estimates
- EV charging costs and EV-vs-gas comparisons
- Plain-English guides that pair with each tool
How we stay free
kWh Lab is reader-supported. Some links to products are affiliate links, and some pages can connect you with solar installers — if you buy or request a quote through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes our recommendations: calculator results and product picks are based on technical fit, not payouts. You can read the full affiliate disclosure for details.
Who is behind it
kWh Lab is an independently run project operated by Kheper Group LLC, based in Orlando, Florida. It is built and maintained by a small team that cares about getting the numbers right and keeping the advice honest.
